The Study of Near Addition for Presbyopia in Accordance with the Distance,Near phoria

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : This study is to investigate correlation between diatance?near phoria and near addition for presbyopia.
Methods : 60 subjects, who have no ocular disease and over 0.8 of corrected visual acuity, participated for this study. The mean age of subjects was 51.88±10.50 years(40 to 76 years). Howell distance phoria card for 3m and Howell-Kim near phoria card for 40cm were used for distance and near phoria measuremets respectively. Additions were measured by using a cross grid visual chart for 40cm with ±0.50D Jackson cross cylinder in an auto-phoroper.
Results : For correlation distance phoria and age, the increaser age was the higher exophoria or the lower esophoria (r=0.40, p<0.01). For correlation near phoria and age, the increaser age was the higher exophoria or the lower esophoria as well (r=0.50, p<0.001). For near phoria, the increaser exophoria was the lower near addition power, and increaser esophoria was the higher near addition power (p<0.001).
Conclusion : As results of this study binocular vision tests are needed to prescribe reading or multi-focal glasses providing comfortable vision.
